After the first week of preseason games, the injury bug is flying around the league. Here’s a list of all of the notable players who are injured and what their status is.
After a misdiagnosis, Breaux is now out for 6 weeks with a fibula fracture which will require surgery. He is slated to return by week 4 or 5. If Breaux had been correctly diagnosed from the start (originally called a contusion), he would likely have been in the starting lineup week one.
In his first practice as a Bill, Matthews suffered a chip fracture in his sternum. He is currently listed as week to week, and it is expected that the Bills newest addition will be ready for week one action.
Jaguars wideout Lee came down with a high ankle sprain in practice Monday. Apparently Lee is pushing to return for the first game but it will be left to the team doctors to decide his status.
Another Jaguars offensive player is having some injury issues. 4th overall selection Leonard Fournette is dealing with a toe injury which is something that arose at LSU that has seemingly followed him to the NFL. Head Coach Doug Marrone is holding Fournette out of the second preseason game, but it seems purely cautionary at this point.
Smith tore his ACL and will be out for the year. He was given a decent contract and was expected to be a starter so it’s a tough blow for San Fran. Rueben Foster will be pushed into action sooner than expected.
After receiving his big contract extension, Freeman has found himself in the NFL’s concussion protocol. He will be held out of the next preseason game but not much else has been said by the Falcons. It’s important to note that even though he is in protocol Freeman still may not have a concussion.
The talented young Chargers Linebacker has an ankle injury and he will miss at least the first four games of the regular season. It has even been reported that Perryman may have surgery. It’s another notch in the long list of Chargers injuries.
Kerry Hyder and Brandon Copeland
In Sunday’s preseason game against the Colts, the Lions 2016 sack leader Kerry Hyder tore his achilles and is out for the season. He was replaced by Brandon Copeland, who then tore his pectoral muscle and is also out for the year. Tough day for the position and for the depth along the Lions already weak defensive line.
Yes, Williams was injured a while ago, but it just surfaced this week that the Chargers will be eyeing an October debut for their first round rookie. With all the injuries for them, it’s important that Williams returns as soon as possible.
