In the second quarter of today’s game in Indianapolis, Kerry Hyder had to be carted off the field. He went down on a pass rush and injured his Achilles. Hyder will have to miss the entire season, which is a gut punch for the Lions.
Hyder was signed right before the Lions last pre-season game last year and came out of nowhere to lead the team in sacks last year with 8. He provides versatility along the defensive line, something the Lions will lack with his absence.
Even though Kenny Golladay had a stellar first game, one has to wonder if the Lions should have spent their second or third round pick on a defensive end. Currently, starting ends Ezekiel Ansah and Cornelius Washington are out with injuries, and solid depth player Armonty Bryant has to serve a 4-game drug suspension. Now with Hyder out, the Lions may in fact have the worst group of defensive ends in the NFL.
The Back Judge wishes Hyder a speedy recovery and hopefully he will be able to return to form next year.
